While there were huge demand of Shramik Specials for ferrying the stranded migrants to their natives, it has been reduced to the bear minimum of around 15 trains at present. It has been clearly understood that the migrants whoever willing to return to their natives due to COVID-19 pandemic, have, by and large, reached their destinations by taking special flights, special trains and by road. The movement of migrants took place from different states and union territories.
The Chief Secretaries of all the states have been enlightened, in writing, by the Railway officials that they are ready to operate special trains if and when the need arises. While the demand was for 15 trains at present, Railways have already ran more than 250 special trains.
Overall nearly 4,500 Shramik specials have run to various destinations from various places in the country comprising over 60 lacs of passengers. It was just three trains operated recently while more than hundred trains have been operated in the past one weeks's time.
The Railways categorically register that there is no pending payments from the receiving states as well as sending states.
In case of more trains needed in the future, the Ministry of Home Affairs will take a call for suitably ferrying the passengers.
The occupancy rate is currenty more than 70% for more than 200 special passenger trains.
More than 50 passengers have been admitted to COVID care coaches for treatment of coronavirus in Uttar Pradesh and about 40 people have been admitted to coaches in Varanasi Divison.
