VINAYAKA CHATHURTHI THIS YEAR - LOOKS BLEAK

Vinayaka Chathurthi is one of the most celebrated festival all over the country every year, generally fall in the month of August/September.  Maharashtra people celebrate for days together and make grand processions later for immersion of Ganesha idols made up of clay.

A sad news to be noted is that idol makers are showing little interest in making the idol under the glooming circumstances raising eye brows of many as to when the normalcy returns in view of the COVID-19 pandemic.  The height of the idol will be around 20 feet height during celebrations in the coastal areas.  But the idol makers, this time, are a worried lot as they could not make it more than 5 feet in view of the weak demand.  An idol maker in Karnataka laments about the current scenario which also eliminates cultural celebrations in every part of the nation.

The entire range of Ganesh Chathurthi celebrations is losing emphasis and gets limited by only small idols for the greatest pooja to be performed.  It is very disappointing that cultural programmes and prasadams may not be featuring this year.

A family whose tradition is to make idols has lamented that they could make only little over 200 idols this time with an approximate height of 4 feet.   The demand for idols is greatly reduced by way of height and quantity as per the verdict of many idol makers this time.
