SORRY STATE OF AFFAIRS - PUBLISHERS


The leading pubishers of Tamil and English newspapers have recently met Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami at his camp office.  They made a strong request to him that the party MPs endorse their demands made to the Prime Minister Narendra Modi to safeguard their survival needs of the newspaper industry  that was facing mammoth losses due to COVID-19 pandemic.  The Indian Newspaper Indusry endorses and requested the PM to remove government levies such as customs duty, settlement of outstanding bills and also increase the advt tariff by 100%.  N Ram of The Hindu, Mr Manok Kumar Sonthalia of New Indian Express Group, Mr L Adimoolam of Dinamalar,
Mr S Balasubramanian Adityan of Daily Thanthi and Mr R M R Ramesh of Kal Publications, have all submitted a represntation to the CM.  The Industry had incurred severe losses of around Rs.5000 crores by loosing revenue from advertisements.  Defeating misinformation through social media, credible information provided by this industry faces huge loss of revenue in various parts of the world due to the spread of coronavirus.  It will be a challenging task to run the industry in the future.

Necessary paper reports form evidence, let us sincerely hope fortunes favour soon in the way of newspaper industry personnel who are putting in their efforts.
