AIR FARES - SKY ROCKETING

The air travel has been quite expensive after flight services are reduced to minimum in view of the COVID-19 pandemic.  While Chennai airport operates just around 50 flights in a day at present, the fare to Delhi is as high as Rs.5,000/-.  When the timing of a flight is inconvenient, a passenger has to look for a suitable flight and to pay more since services are very limited.  Under the circumstances, a passenger has to shell out upto Rs.8,000/- for a trip to Delhi.

The cost is high when a flight has one or more stop overs instead of a directly flight viz. to Mumbai as aggrieved by passengers.  The regular domestic fliers have been held up in different parts of the country and eagerly wait for the opportunity to return home during lockdown.  Ultimately, this forces a passenger to shell out extra money to fly back, as demanded by the airline authorities.  Even the middle class people would be hesitant to pay extra money as demanded.

As per the Airport authorities, the fares are likely to come down once the operation of number of flights improve.  Here again, the demand speaks for fixing the fares.  The travelling of people upon resumption of domestic flight operations is very much reduced, both by way of arrivals and departures.
