COUNSELLING BY CORPORATION SCHOOL TEACHERS


A novel procedure has been initiated by the Chennai Corporation involving government school teachers help those who are in dire need on account of COVID-19 pandemic.

The primary school teachers are handling telecounselling centres set up by the corporation in various zones in the city of Chennai.  They have been given proper training in handling the calls and provide psychological and social counselling those who are in dire need.  The counselling centres have been set up in as many as 15 zones in the city to handle good amount of incoming calls in the wake of coronavirus spread.

The patients and the families can call the respective telephone numbers provided at the zones to enable avail the counselling provided by the untiring teachers.  Every zone will have 30 teachers each and will be handled on shifts basis, three a day.  Ten teachers will handle the calls for six hours in the shift for the emotional and fearful calls from the needy.  These inputs will be putforth to the zonal officers of Greater Chennai Corporation.  The need will in the form of essential commodities, medicines, etc. by the callers which will be taken care of by the corporation officials.

The patients and families are a depressed lot when coming under the quarantine period.  Upon knowing the symptoms expressed by the patients, teachers pacify them and make them feel normal.

It is not an out of place mention that corporation provide satisfying service to the volunteered teachers by providing necessary help and also transport arrangements for shuttling to the counselling centres.
