FATE OF RATH YATRA?


The Supreme Court had ordered cancellation of Rath Yatra this year due to COVID-19 pandemic.

The priest, in his latest comments, wanted the authorities to review the decision in not holding the Rath Yatra.

While the political bigwigs, devotees and many others prefer the century old tradition should not be affected, the State Cabinet in Bhubaneshwar wanted to abide by the order issued by the Supreme Court.  It is only proper and fitting response by the people concerned if the yatra is suspended.Due to spike in cases of coronavirus, it would be a welcome affair by one and all if yatra is cancelled.

According to the well know priest, it is a pleasant scene if Lord Jagannath travels on chariot giving darshan to many many devotees, with the presence of male servants.

The priests body of the temple requested the State Government authorities to consult with legal experts in approaching the Supreme Court again for a review of the decision.  In a general view, it would be joyous to have the yatra scne with usual ferver.

It is a well known fact that avoiding congregation of people ordered by the Supreme Court.  The committee of temple officials had already agreed with the Supreme Court and State Cabinet.

If not held, an history will be created for the first time in about 285 years.
