SCHOOL REOPENING - DECISION BY RESPECTIVE STATES

The School Education Secretary has advised that Centre would not intervene and that the State Governments can take decisions on their own about the opening of schools.

The Union HRD Ministry has been ready with guidelines for sanitation, quarantine and physical distancing norms to be adhered to by schools whenever they open.

The Secretary was pointing out during a virtual conference on school education and COVID-19 hosted by Ashoka University, New Delhi.  The safety norms are ready.  Some consultations are going on and that rumous are going around the guidelines that the date of opening of schools is announced.  That is not the case.  State Governments and Union Territories have their own prerogatives as to when they can open depending on the local situation.  The Centre was trying to prepare guidelines for sanitation, social distancing and how to do classroom transactions and do not intervene in opening.
