T20 CRICKET WORLD CUP IN AUSTRALIA

At a Board meeting of International Cricket Council (ICC) today, staging of the T20 world cup in Australia will be discussed which is keenly watched by BCCI (Board of Control for Cricket in India).

This tournament will be hosted in October-November this year and the next similar edition proposed to be held in India.  It will not be out of place to mention here that the ICC was in the line of thinking that Australia holding the event may be shifted to next year and India holding the event might be put off to 2022 in view of the basic reason of COVID-19 pandemic.  A wait of one month is on the cards by the organisations such as Cricket Australia, Australian government and the ICC anticipating improvement in the containment of coronavirus cases.  Contrary to this, BCCI expects a decision could take place forthwith.

Somehow squeeze the IPL is the idea behind BCCI officials during October-November in a suitably modified format in the event of T20 world cup getting postponed in Australia.  Much to the anticipation, India would like to retain hosting world cup next year while the views of Australian board was also in the same lines to hold next year if October-November schedule gets postponed.  Ultimately, India will hose the world up in 2022 which is very close to the 50 over world up also to be hosted by India in 2023.  A conference call, in this regard, has taken place yesterday between the BCCI President and other office-bearers.

Let's wait and watch the turn about of events.
