A DECISION AT LAST - T20 WORLD CUP

The International Cricket Council, in their Board Meeting on 20th July 2020, has announced postponing the T20 World Cup from this year to 2022.  The tournament was scheduled to start on 18th October 2020 in Australia.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India - BCCI, now, has an opportunity to utilise this window in conducting the cash-rich IPL tournament.

The ICC has also announced the advancing of 2023 - 50 over World Cup from February-March to October-November in the same year.  A better chance has been provided in maintaining the integrity of the qualification processing by way of changing the window.  The venues have not been spelt out for T20 World Cups in 2021 and 2022.

The awarded host status of 2021 tournament in India is on tenterhooks as the BCCI yet to secure tax exemptions from the Central Government.  This deadline has been extended to 31st December 2020 by ICC thus chances are bright in retaining the hosting rights.  Under the circumstances, India can space the big events out than staging them continuously two years.

The franchises of IPL and BCCI have the opportunity of switching to tournament mode.  The Chairman of IPL Governing Council felt, the time has come, in exploring the possibilities of staging the tournament.  The IPL Governing Council set to meet on 24th July 2020 to propose formally the venue as United Arab Emirates.

An interesting stage is set for the cricket lovers who can await for enjoying IPL cricket matches.
