COVID-19 - TAMIL NADU

Around 60% of the new cases reported are mainly from Chennai and five districts in the North.  Increased registrations of new cases continue in places like Kanyakumari, Thoothukudi and Madurai.  All these happen on a single day - yesterday.

A close vigil and strict monitoring of cases by the Health Department are to bring the situation under control and to ensure control of spreading the infection in the state.

While more than 1,22,500 cases registered so far, a little more than 3,000 people recovered and discharged from various hospitals and health care centres.  In toto, active cases are over 46,000 and discharge level is over 74,000.  The death toll so far is 1,700.

While Chennai alone recorded 1,261 cases yesterday, it was 300 at Tiruvallur and 273 at Chengalpattu Districts.  Madurai being an hot spot in the state, surged to 379 cases a day and a total of 5,000 cases, which is very alarming comparing to controlled results in the recent past.

A satisfactory news is that Chennai continue to register reduced cases in the past few days floating around 1,200 cases continuously for two days.  Hope this trend improves which will be monitored for next few days.  The Health Secretary appeals fervently to people to follow wearing masks, maintain social distance and sanitise very often, which are vulnerable and perfected.  Avoid stigma by way of revealing symptoms then and there.

Number of testing per day stood at nearly 36,000 and cumulative to 14.5 lacs.  The state has now close to 100 testing facilities.
