The views of health officials in different states and union territories differ from one to another. The Main centre which has control over other testing centres in the country seriously advised these centres to increase to maximum extent possible.
While huge amount of testings are done, the Health Ministry says it will touch one crore testings in the country shortly. As on date, there are 1,065 testing labs -768 in public sector and 297 in private sector. The daily testings is also on the increase which is likely to touch 2.5 lacs shortly. The Union Government has advised all states and union territories to increase testing labs by using Rapid Antigen Point-of-care testing apart from RT-PCR. This is the gold standard for diagnosis and also quick, simple and safe. In line with ICMR standards, the usage could be in containment zones and hospitals. They have also been advised to carry out camps by using mobile vans, etc.. Collection of samples of all symptomatic individuals at their premises will speak effectively in terms of results. The World Health Organistion also gives caution that attention needed towards mental health and suicide prevention during COVID-19 pandemic.
