GREAT SAVE - FISHERMEN


Fishermen venturing into sea for capturing fishes, come back to the shore, arrange for sale of fish caught and earn their livelihood.  These ventures by boat prove danger to the fishermen and risk their lives when on the hunt.

On 26th July, fishermen numbering twelve had a miraculous escape who have been saved by a quick joint operation by Naval Team and the Coast Guard Team, when the boat used by the fishermen capsized.  This has happened near Manali Island near Pamban Bridge.

Upon getting a frantic call early in the morning about the boat capsize, a team rushed and spotted by a naval helicopter eight miles away from the coast.

At the time bad when weather noticed, the boat was sinking fast damaging the hull, four fishermen lifted up into the helicopter followed by another four fishermen, one team after the other.  They were taken to the Mandapam helipad.  The other four fishermen rescued by another fishing boat safely.

The Lt. Commander was all praise to the SOS which helped them spotting these fishermen and rescued them.

A big sigh of relief to fishermen at Tharuvaikkulam when heard that all the twelve fishermen were safe.
Earlier the trawler used by fishermen developed snag on the previous day when returning with the catch.  The fisherman have since returned home after a formal first aid.
