INCREASING DEATH - DOCTORS


The services from the frontline people, especially by doctors, in treating coronavirus affected patients is very well appreciated by people of different walks of life.  All affected patients fighting for their survival where doctors play a key role.  But during these services, doctors fall prey and face the risk of their lives while giving treatment to affected patients.

The Indian Medical Association at Kochi claims more than 100 doctors died because of COVID-19 related complications.  Specifically, Delhi, Gujarat, Tamil Nadu and Maharashtra have come across many deaths of doctors, who were below 60 years.

Even nurses lost their lives and about 15 deaths have been reported.

The deaths were due to pandemic-related violent deaths, road accidents and suicide.  Out of non-violence, the deaths were 55% of below 60 years, 30% below 50 years and 21% below 40 years.  Around 50% considered as general practitioners and 27% with surgical special.  These were trends indicated by health officials while actual deaths would be more.

Out of 11 lakhs registered medical doctors under Medical Council of India, it comprises of one third members  at Indian Medical Association.  Ayush, Ayurvedic, Unani and Homeopathic specialists are taken into account.  Doctors run small clinic like set up, provide minimum safety.  The Government can maintain separate record of healthcare providers who die due to COVID-19 pandemic.  A doctor opine that the source of contracting infection was from the workplace but all infections were not work related results.  

A neurosurgeon was the first doctor to die in Chennai due to pandemic.  Dr Hercules infected while treating a patient.

In Gujarat, Dr Sailesh Champaneria died due to COVID-19 pandemic, also while treating patients.  A paediatric specialist Dr Azizuddin in Lucknow died of infection.  He was treated for long infection, shifted from hospitals to hospitals, but his life could not be saved.

Let us await anticipated vaccine and put an end to this infection soon.
