MARKETS - RE-OPEN

In view of the continued effect that spreads coronavirus to many areas, the cost of essentials such as vegetables and fruits are soaring high.  Besides, the regular spacious market at Koyambedu was temporarily closed as infection spread to many people from people visiting this place.

The Vaniga Sangam Association has requested the Government to reopen these wholesale markets at Chennai and Tiruchi.  This will give a relief for tradaers, who are already suffering due to lockdown, to enhance their livelihood and pave way for controlling the increase in prices.

The wholesale markets involved in selling vegetables, groceries, fish, meat and other related products.  These markets were closed for more than 100 days in main areas like Chennai, Vellore and Trichy.  Even though, some function on alternative sites provide by the Government, more than 5,000 wholesalers are struggling to make both the ends meet.  Thirumazhisai, being a temporary market in place of Koyambedu, Chenai people could not get essentials in required quantities and forced to shell out extra cost to obtain through alternative sources.

Being a rainy season, Thiumazhisai market becomes slushy which affects movement of goods at this market giving hardship to traders in visiting the market.  Even farmers finding it difficult to bring their produce into the market.

The produce go waste if not sold and also due to lack of storage facility in the market.  This adds agony on retail prices of vegetables go high.

Hope Government heed to traders request and throw some light on their livelihood.
