NEW PLANS BY ICMR

A new survey to assess the correct existence of the COVID-19 pandemic has been undertaken by Indian Council of Medical Research - ICMR as informed by its senior officials.

Having conducted the first survey during April for 60 districts, it was inferred that 0.73% of the Indian population would have been infected.  Somewhere around 7 lacs people were exposed to virus covering 21 states as early as May 2020.  As against clear 35,000 cases of COVID-19 outbreak all over India, the correct infected people would be more than 25 times.  While we could see cases registered alarmingly for coronavirus, the actual might be 20 times against the reported figures.  These are being reviewed and under investigation upon which information will be shared.

While that was the present scenario, another survey across the country is being planned besides a particular exercise to arrive at the estimated spread in Delhi.

The spread of disease to containment zones and hot spots are not revealed by the Director of ICMR upon sharing headline figures.  An overall survey in Delhi indicates that about 15% of the population was affected by the pandemic.

A contemplation is going on with the ICMR circle whether the next survey has to be on new areas or from the same districts that have been investigated already.
