FRANCHISES CONCERN - IPL 2020

The most delayed and most awaited IPL carnival is scheduled to take place in September in the United Arab Emirates.  An approval is awaited from the sports ministry in this regard.

The Governing Council meeting is scheduled to be held today but announcement of fixtures and standard operating procedures are unlikely to be revealed after the scheduled meeting.  The eagerness continue to grow among franchises and fans about the conduct of the tournament.

The go ahead signal is awaited from the government making the Governing Council to work rows of issues but revealing to franchises may not happen.  The concerns are such as logistics of bio-secure bubbles, travelling arrangements, availability of foreign cricketers and player-replacement policy in case of injury or unplayable stature.  The IPL team and the BCCI medical team are working about finalising standard operating procedures.  The satisfaction of cricketers, officials and broadcasters are very much in the hands of Governing Council members.

The Dubai authorities had announced a self-quarantine period of 48 hours at the time of arrival in Dubai.  The guidelines have been revised recently and now self-quarantine of one week need to be followed.

Certain players who will be already on national duty might miss the initial stages of the tournament.
The player replacement is a prime concern for the franchises.  When the replacement will be for a COVID-19 pandemic or injury, the incumbent needs to undergo one week quarantine even when the tournament is underway.

Let's all, with specific reference to cricket lovers, eagerly wait solutions for the hindrances and let the tournament gets flagged off in style.
