IT'S CURTAINS - ANGLO-FRENCH TEXTILES

One of the century old Textile Mills located in Puducherry has been closed as it was facing huge financial constraints.  The closure of Anglo-French Textiles was announced by the Industries Department provoking many trade union members and protested by them.  The Management of the Mill expressed the desire of policy decision by the Government in closing all units and the mill permanently.

The mill faced mounting losses besides not able to meet the day to day expenses made a big question mark about sustenance.  One of the political parties involved in signature campaign expressed anguish that the future of many many workers and employees put in the dark and no light to come out of the tunnel.  The party also insisted on the government to reverse the decision and put in efforts in starting the mill.  As per the informed sources, the machinery are old and outdated and difficult to run them as a result.

The administrative lapse was clearly exposed as the Mill was closed seven years back.  The network of the company and labour unrest were evident due to statutory dues of employees still unpaid.

One of the Peoples' Rights Federation felt that the historic and unique identity of Puducherry fallen deep under the ground because the Anglo-French Textiles mill has proud ownership of the Union Territory for several decades.

Let's hope the revival efforts of the mill is initiated to bring light into the life of various workers and employees.
