CINEMA IS BACK - WEST BENGAL

In an attempt to first, the West Bengal government has boldly come forward in announcing that cinema halls can be opened for public with effect from 1st October 2020 amid much fanfare to the movie goers with cheers and happiness.  Multiplex and single screen operators have campaigned during these pandemic months and protested the denial of reopening permissions to them by the authorities concerned.

In order to ease restrictions with a view to Durga Puna festival round the corner, other cultural activities such as magic shows, dance, dramas, etc. will also be allowed from 1st October with a ceiling of fifty people.  With fifty people participation in jatras, plays, dance, cinema theatres, etc. restrictions, wearing of masks and maintaining social distancing are to be followed as precautionary tools.

One of the independent exhibitor delighted and would be good if it is happening in the rest of the country.  The denial of permission was regretted every time when relaxation of rules taking place ever since the lockdown was announced in the middle of March.  The loss during the pandemic could be around Rs.3,000 crores for the Indian film industry which have been shut for over six months.  While malls and other hubs have been opened, about 20 lakhs jobs are at stake when the film industry was shut.

However, now, that the cinema halls are being open, the normalcy in the film and connected activities would be back soon.
