ICU GOING UP - HOSPITALS IN DELHI FOR COVID-19

 














Under most testing and trying conditions to get away with the coronavirus, hospitals in Delhi have increased the ICU bed capacity from 2,100 to 2,558 to cope up with the existing pandemic and give better treatment to the needy.  Based on the latest analysis, over 60% of the ICU beds have been occupied this morning.  Even Delhi government has made a special request to hospitals like Lok Nayak Hospital and Guru Teg Bahadur hospital to increase their ICU bed capacity.

After increasing non-ventillator ICU beds to read at 391, Rajiv Gandhi Superspeciality hospital in Tahirpur are giving treatment to the needy.  The private hospital ICU beds have been occupied to its 85% capacity and treatments are on.  While private hospitals have increased non-ventillator beds, Delhi government ordered private hospitals to make reservations of 80% exclusively for treatment to COVID-19 patients.  One of the private healthcare provider with a view to disagree these arrangements, has planned to move with the Delhi high court for striking down the order besides representing to the Union Minister for health and family welfare.  They regretted the order was issued without any consultation and prior intimation.


 After the month of May, the occupancy has risen many folds in private hospitals and patients are not ready to wait any more for postponing surgeries due to covid outbreak.  Increasing the ICU beds will only hamper treatments otherwise with speciality in surgery getting affected.  Big hospitals record upto 30% admission to emergency departments.  Immediate medical attention is the key for patients who met with road accidents, cardiac arrest and trauma while treatment to be continued as far as covid-19 patients are concerned.
