NO ONE SHOULD ENTER - DURGA PUJA PANDALS IN WEST BENGAL

One of the well established celebrations in the country is vastly considered as Durga Puja festivals which normally falls during the month of October every year.  While it takes places on 25th and 26th of this month, Calcutta High Court in West Bengal has imposed strict restrictions for revellers entering the pandals being erected by the puja organisers.

A distance of five metres for small pandals and 10 metres for big pandals are to be strictly followed by the revellers as advised the court in response to a PIL.  The organisers or committee members as it deemed fit should limit the pandals to 25 for big ones and 15 for small ones.  The organisers names have to be displayed who are authorised to enter the pandals in connection with the pujas.  This is applicable to over 37000 committees including a whopping 3000 in Kolkata, being the state capital.

As viewed by the court, policemen are short in managing the crowd.  The police will also have a check on the entry of authorised people in the pandals.  The High Court directed the Puja organisers to spend 75% on Rs.50,000/- which was granted by the Bengal government for procuring equipments in connection with covid-19 protection plan.  The products covered are such as sanitisers and masks.  The balance need to be earmarked for strengthening bonding between police and public.

Since physical entry of visitors is restricted, several pandal committees have organised virtual darshan to facilitate the public.

Let the coronavirus vanish soon which will enable celebrations in the normal atmosphere from next year onwards.
